About the Show

A child with a wild imagination. A child who gives no-one time to breathe. ‘Let’s make a house!’ A whirlwind of ideas. ‘Not like that! Like this!’ Will the house get built? The adults huff and puff to keep up. Join them all on this windswept magical journey into the world of play, where home-made dens and hidey-holes reveal intriguing secrets.

Catch Your Breath takes a magical look at how children define their sense of space – their dependence and independence. It is inspired by the hidden hidey-holes which children create and explores how young children learn to play together. Catch Your Breath uses a fusion of puppetry, gentle performance and choreographed objects and images, to create a world in which the imagination can take flight.

"It’s refreshing to see children’s theatre bold enough to portray the full range of children’s emotions (anger, fear) as well as their positive feelings. An enjoyable and creative experience for my children. They have talked about it after the performance." - Audience Member

"Beautiful, sensitive and simple. I heard one child cry out ‘It’s magic!’ and saw so many engaged and wonder filled faces. I thought the relationship between the beautiful angelic Belle and the animal…was well portrayed for children. Adults enjoyed it too"

"Theatre-Rites is one of those companies that, in recent years, have transformed children’s theatre and produced shows for the under-fives that are as challenging and theatrically inventive as any of the best work produced by leading groups. "
