Sophia was Theatre-Rites Associate Artist from 1998 to 2008.
Sophia trained as a sculptor. Much of her work is created collaboratively with artists from other disciplines and audience interaction is often an integral component. She makes work in a variety of contexts - from black box theatre to public spaces - a shopping centre, a playground in a park; inside and outside; temporary and permanent.
Her relationship with Theatre-Rites began in 1998 when she worked as the installation artist on The Lost and Moated Land. As an Associate Artist of the company, she designed many touring and site-specific productions including Shopworks, commissioned by LIFT and the Vienna Festival in 2003, the touring show In One Ear and in 2007 she co-created Theatre-Rites first middle-scale prduction Mischief, which was commissioned by Sadler's Wells and the Dance Touring Partnership. In 2004 she collaborated with composer Craig Vear to create a two-month long installation, Outside In commissioned by the South Bank Centre.
Her own touring installation Stretch, produced by Crying Out Loud, explores a fusion of kinetic sculpture, projection, sound, performance and audience interaction. Stretch has toured to many venues including Nottdance in 2004, Transit Dance Festival, Marl, Germany in 2005, Toronto's Milk Festival 2006, an international children's festival of the arts and Sadler's Wells in 2007.
