Commissioned by the Ruhr Triennale
Salt will be part of Germany's prestigious Festival and Theatre-Rites is particularly delighted to be the first company commissioned by the Festival to create work aimed specifically at children and family audiences.
Sue Buckmaster will be collaborating with designer and co-director Lou Wilson, sound artist and composer Andy Pink and lighting designer Anna Watson to create a magical journey through a fabulous, derelict Salt Factory in the famous Zollvereine Cokery in Essen, Germany. This production will perform from Sunday 31st August to Sunday 14th September, 2008.
The building was originally home to the transformations and chemical processes that created sodium phosphate (Salt), however this will not be a recreation of the building as it used to be, instead audiences will be enchanted by the imaginative and magical interpretation of the transformations that used to happen.
Eight performers, puppeteers and musicians will be bringing this four-storey building to life, exploring themes of earth, water, air and fire and they will guide audiences around a wonderful installation created specifically for the factory. This production will be an intimate experience for 90 people at a time to share.
